Tally is operated by dede ("we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. They govern your use of Tally ("the Service"): the website at runningtally.co and its subdomains (including pay.runningtally.co), the Tally apps for iPhone and Mac, and the Tally connector for Claude.
By creating an account, or by continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect (see "Changes to these terms"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy and Refund Policy form part of these terms.
1. What Tally is#
Tally is finance and bookkeeping software for Australian sole traders. It lets you:
- create and send invoices and quotes, and take payment through your own Stripe account or by bank transfer;
- record expenses and keep receipt photos and documents, including receipts you forward to your Tally receipt address;
- bring in bank transactions by CSV import or through a bank feed you set up with Redbark;
- record the withholding Hnry reports to you, and track hours;
- see reports and tax estimates based on the figures you enter or import;
- use optional features such as notifications, widgets, Siri and Spotlight on Apple devices, on-device Apple Intelligence features, and a connector that lets your own Claude assistant read and act on your Tally data.
Tally records, organises and calculates. It is not an accountant, a registered tax agent or BAS agent, or a financial adviser, and it does not hold or move your money. See section 6.
2. Who can use Tally#
You must be at least 18, and you must use Tally for your business or professional affairs as a sole trader or similar. By using Tally you confirm you meet these requirements.
3. Your account and its security#
- You can sign in with Google, with Apple, or with your email address (by a one-time code, a sign-in link or a password). You can also turn on two-factor authentication. We recommend you do.
- Keep your sign-in details, your email account and your devices secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account, unless it happens because of our failure to take reasonable care.
- Tell us promptly at team@runningtally.co if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.
- One account is for one person. Don't share your account.
- You can see and sign out your other sessions and devices in Settings.
4. Tally Pro#
Every feature of Tally is available without paying. Tally Pro is an optional supporter plan for people who want to help fund Tally's development. It does not unlock any feature.
Price and billing.
- Tally Pro costs A$20 per month. We are not registered for GST, so no GST is included or charged. If we become registered for GST, we will tell you before any change to the price you pay (see "Price changes" below).
- You can only buy Tally Pro on the website. It is billed through Stripe, our payment provider, to the card you give at checkout. Your card details are held by Stripe, not by us.
- Your first charge is taken when you subscribe. The plan then renews automatically every month on the same day of the month, and we charge your card at each renewal, until you cancel.
- We email you a reminder 7 days before each renewal, with the date and the amount, so you can cancel first if you want to.
- We email you a receipt for each payment. Stripe does not send one.
Cancelling.
- You can cancel at any time, online, from your plan page in Settings (Settings, then Plan), which opens Stripe's billing page. Cancelling takes no more steps than subscribing did. You don't need to contact us.
- When you cancel, Tally Pro stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, then ends. We don't charge you again.
- Until the period ends, you can change your mind and keep the plan from the same page.
- Nothing in Tally changes when Tally Pro ends, because Tally Pro unlocks nothing. Your data and every feature stay as they were.
If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it. If it still fails, Tally Pro ends. Your account and data are not affected.
If you delete your account while Tally Pro is active, the plan is cancelled straight away, so you are never charged again. We don't refund the rest of the current period. This doesn't affect the 14-day refund below, or your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Price changes. We may change the price of Tally Pro. We'll email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to you, and it will only apply from your first renewal after that notice period. If you don't want to pay the new price, cancel before that renewal.
Refunds. If you ask within 14 days of a Tally Pro charge, we'll refund that charge in full, no questions asked. This is in addition to, not instead of, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. See the Refund Policy for how to ask and the other cases where we refund. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
5. Your data#
- You own your data. Everything you put into Tally (your records, your clients' details, your files) stays yours. We claim no ownership of it.
- What we may do with it. You give us permission to store, copy, process, transmit and display your data only as needed to run, secure, support and improve the reliability of the Service for you, and as our Privacy Policy describes. This permission ends when your data is deleted, except for copies in backups, which age out as section 13 describes.
- We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
- Export. You can download all your data at any time from Settings, as one zip file of JSON and CSV files and your uploaded files. Your stored keys for other services are left out of the export for safety.
- Keep your own records. Australian tax law expects you to keep business records, usually for five years. Tally takes backups, but you should export anything you rely on and not treat Tally as your only copy.
Your clients' information. When you add a client, send an invoice or a quote, or record a payment, you give Tally personal information about other people. You are responsible for having the right to collect and use that information, and to email your clients through Tally. We handle that information on your behalf, as set out in the Schedule (Data processing) below.
6. Not financial, tax or legal advice#
- Tally's reports, totals, categories, matches and tax figures are worked out from the data you enter or import, using rates and rules we have built in. Tax figures are estimates to help you plan, for example how much to set aside. They may not reflect your full circumstances, and they may be wrong if your data is incomplete or if rules change.
- Nothing Tally shows or says is financial, tax, accounting or legal advice. That includes anything shown by on-device AI features, and anything Claude tells you using data from Tally.
- Tally does not prepare or lodge tax returns or business activity statements. Before you lodge anything or make a decision that depends on these figures, check them yourself or with a registered tax agent. The ATO's own calculators are another check.
- You are responsible for what you lodge with the ATO or any other authority, for what you invoice and tell your clients, and for complying with your own obligations, including any arrangement you have with Hnry.
7. AI features#
- On-device features. On supported Apple devices, Tally can use Apple Intelligence to understand a question you type, or to suggest what an expense was for. These run on your device. Suggestions can be wrong. Check them before you rely on them. Tally doesn't save or change anything from these features without you confirming it.
- The Claude connector. You can connect Tally to Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, using your own Anthropic account. When you do:
- you choose whether Claude can only read your Tally data, or can also act on it (for example create an invoice or quote, send an invoice or quote to a client, record a payment, mark an invoice paid, cancel or reopen an invoice, add or change a client, or add or change an expense);
- data Claude reads from Tally goes to Anthropic and is handled under your agreement with Anthropic, not under these terms;
- Claude acts on your instructions. Actions it takes through the connector are treated as actions you took, so review what you ask it to do;
- you can disconnect Claude at any time in Settings, which stops its access straight away.
8. Other services you connect#
Tally works with services run by other companies. Each has its own terms, which apply to your use of it. We are not responsible for their availability, pricing, conduct or mistakes.
- Stripe (your own account). If you connect your Stripe account, you give Tally a Stripe key, and Tally sets up a webhook on your account so it knows when a client pays. Client payments go from your client to your Stripe account and then to your bank. We are never a party to those payments and never hold your money.
- Your bank, through Redbark. If you set up a bank feed, you do it with your own Redbark account and API key. You give consent to share your bank data on Redbark's site, under Australia's Consumer Data Right. Tally never sees your banking password. Redbark then makes your transactions and balances available to Tally.
- Your own email domain or Resend account. By default, Tally sends invoices and other emails for you from a shared Tally address, with replies going to you. If you set up your own sending domain or Resend account, emails go out through it instead.
- Hnry. Tally doesn't connect to Hnry. It records the figures you enter from your Hnry statements.
- Google and Apple. If you sign in with Google or Apple, their terms apply to that sign-in. Address suggestions come from Google Maps Platform.
- Anthropic. See section 7.
You are responsible for the keys and access you give Tally to these services, and for revoking them in those services if you stop using Tally. When you disconnect a service in Tally or delete your account, we delete the stored key and remove the webhooks we created, where we still can.
9. Acceptable use#
You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. In short: use Tally lawfully, only for your own records, don't use it to spam or harass anyone, and don't try to get at data that isn't yours.
10. The Apple apps#
The Tally apps for iPhone and Mac are licensed to you under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms govern your Tally account and the Service. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the Service or for support.
11. Availability and changes to the Service#
- We work to keep Tally available and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may need to take it offline for maintenance, usually briefly.
- We improve Tally over time, which means features change. If we plan to remove or substantially reduce a feature you use, we'll give you reasonable notice where we can.
- If we decide to close Tally altogether, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice by email, keep export available during that time, and refund any Tally Pro payment for time after the closing date.
12. Liability#
Your consumer rights. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Limit for consumer guarantees. Where the law allows it, our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee is limited, at our choice, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
Other liability. Subject to the paragraphs above, and to the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue or data, arising from the Service;
- our total liability to you for all claims arising from the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or A$100.
This limit does not apply to loss caused by our fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or to anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
13. Ending your use of Tally#
You can leave at any time. Delete your account in Settings, on the web or in the app. Deleting your account:
- cancels any Tally Pro plan straight away, with no refund of the current period (subject to the 14-day refund and the Australian Consumer Law; see section 4);
- removes the webhooks and connections Tally created in your Stripe, Redbark and Resend accounts, where we still can;
- permanently deletes your account, your records and your uploaded files.
It can't be undone, so export your data first. Copies in our database backups are deleted as the backups age out, within 7 days.
We may suspend or close your account only for a good reason:
- Straight away, if we reasonably believe your account is being used in a way that puts the Service, other users or other people at risk, or that breaks the law. We'll tell you why as soon as it's safe to, unless the law prevents us.
- After notice, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy. We'll tell you what the problem is and give you a reasonable chance (usually at least 14 days) to fix it, unless it can't be fixed.
- With at least 60 days' notice, for any other reason, as if we were closing the Service (section 11).
If we close your account for a reason other than your breach, we'll refund any Tally Pro payment for time after it closes. Unless the law or a safety reason prevents it, we'll give you a chance to export your data first.
Sections 5 (keeping your own records), 6, 12 and 16 continue after your account ends.
14. Changes to these terms#
We may update these terms, for example when Tally changes or the law does.
- For a change that could disadvantage you, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect and show the change in the app or on the website. If you don't accept it, you can delete your account or cancel Tally Pro before it takes effect. If you cancel because of the change, we'll refund any Tally Pro payment for time after the change takes effect.
- For a change that doesn't disadvantage you, or that the law requires at short notice, we'll post it here and may email you. It takes effect when posted.
- If you keep using Tally after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. We may ask you to confirm you accept them when you next sign in.
- Each version of these terms carries a date and version number. If you need an earlier version, email team@runningtally.co and we'll send it to you.
15. General#
- Notices. We'll send notices to the email address on your account. You can send notices to team@runningtally.co.
- Transfer. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to someone who takes over Tally (for example a company Tally's owner incorporates), if your rights are not reduced. We'll tell you if that happens.
- Severability. If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Entire agreement. These terms, with the policies named at the top, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
16. Governing law#
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the courts that can hear appeals from them.
17. Contact#

Schedule: Data processing#
This schedule applies to personal information about other people that you put into Tally, such as your clients' names, email addresses, postal addresses and invoice details ("client data").
- On your behalf. We handle client data only to provide the Service to you and on your instructions (which include the settings you choose and the actions you take in Tally, including through the Claude connector).
- No other use. We don't use client data for our own purposes, including marketing, and we don't sell it.
- Confidentiality. Only Tally's owner can access client data, and only when needed to run, secure or support the Service.
- Security. We protect client data as described in the Privacy Policy, including database rules that keep each account's data separate and encryption of stored keys.
- Sub-processors. We use the providers listed in our sub-processor list. We'll update the list, and email you about a new provider that will handle client data, before it starts. If you object, you can stop using Tally.
- Breaches. If we become aware of unauthorised access to, or loss of, client data, we'll tell you without undue delay and give you the information you reasonably need to meet your own obligations.
- Requests. If one of your clients asks us for access to or correction of their information, we'll pass the request to you. We'll help you respond to requests you receive, as far as the Service allows.
- On closure. When your account is deleted, client data is deleted with it, except for copies in backups, which age out within 7 days.
- Overseas. Client data is stored and handled in the countries listed in the Privacy Policy.
